Sheriff: Cavaleiros Consagrados es una de las bandas de metal católico mas conocidas de Brasil. En sus presentaciones, además de sonar música de calidad, se producen momentos de sanación y liberación, ministrados por el líder y vocalista de la banda Alexandre Cavallero, momentos en los cuales muchas personas son renovadas.
La formación de la banda es la siguiente: Alexandre Cavallero (vocalista), André Duarte (Guitarra), Dorival Jr.(Bajo) y Julio César (bateria).
Se muchas cosas de vosotros gracias a Internet pero para los lectores que todavía no os conocen, quisiera que por favor nos resumiesen su trayectoria.
A. Cavallero: Bien, todo comenzó en el año 1992, cuando conocí un festival de música cristiana llamado Hallel, en la ciudad de Franca (a unos 500km. de la ciudad de São Paulo). Hasta ese momento mi visión de la música católica se restringía a coros más bien clásicos, y no conocía nada de grupos con ritmos juveniles como, el rock, el reggae, o el pop.
Tiempo después, Julio, Júnior, yo, y algunos amigos que no están actualmente con nosotros, decidimos armar una banda en nuestra ciudad, para animar las reuniones de los grupos de jóvenes S.U.E.D. A partir de ese momento no paramos más. Tocamos en varias ciudades de la región, hasta que en el año 2001 decidimos dedicarnos exclusivamente a la música. Reunimos nuestras composiciones, colocamos nombre a la banda (Cavaleiros Consagrados) y grabamos nuestro primer álbum titulado “Escudo Soberano”, el cual tuvo bastante éxito en Brasil.
Sheriff: Cuales son sus influencias?
Al. Cavallero: Somos muy eclécticos, oímos desde música clásica, hasta pop. Pero el estilo musical de la banda, es una mezcla entre Metallica y Pink Floyd.
Sheriff: Además de “Escudo Soberano” hay otro álbum listo para ser lanzado. ¿Para cuando estará en la calle?
Al. Cavallero: No, realmente no. Lo que tenemos son algunas canciones que en poco tiempo mas, deberán ser parte del segundo álbum de la banda, pero todavía no tenemos nada definido.
Sheriff: Tengo la impresión de que los integrantes de Cavaleiros Consagrados, tienen una buena buena formación musical y espiritual. Quisiera que me hablaran de sus estudios musicales.
Al. Cavallero: Cuando somos llamados para una misión tenemos que dar lo mejor. Si me hubieses preguntado en 1994, si yo iría a formar una banda, te hubiese respondido que nunca lo hubiese hecho. Pero con el correr de los tiempos, vi la necesidad que los jóvenes tengan música de calidad en la iglesia, y como tocábamos realmente mal, decidimos asistir a un conservatorio para mejorar nuestra técnica. En 3 años de intenso estudio mejoramos mucho. Ahora estudiamos un poco menos, porque tenemos la necesidad de formar otros músicos. En mi caso, como soy compositor, tengo que analizar las canciones. Lo que hago en mi Home Studio es, descargar de Internet partituras de diversas bandas, y las analizo. Esa es la forma que encontré de mantenerme actualizado.
Sheriff: Alexandre, cuéntame un poco sobre el don de liberación y como éste se manifiesta en los shows de la banda.
Al. Cavallero: Los dones de sanación y liberación son algo muy serio y deben ser ministrados con mucha sabiduría. No en todos los lugares conviene ministrar estos dones, pues algunos metaleros no cristianos pueden entenderlos mal. Generalmente oro en conciertos organizados por la iglesia como Hallel, Rocksurection, etc. Pues para ministrar estos dones no puedo estar solo, tengo que tener un equipo de apoyo (intercesores) para que dicha liberación sea realizada con éxito. En estos lugares, durante la música, pido a los jóvenes que tiren a los pies de un crucifijo la droga que ellos traen consigo. Cierta vez llenamos una bolsa de 50 kilos con marihuana, bebidas, y otras cosas que sirven para esclavizar a la juventud. Fue maravilloso ver el poder de Dios, operar en aquellas personas.
Sheriff: ¿Estáis en algún movimiento, parroquia… de la Iglesia?
Al. Cavallero: Si, tenemos participación activa dentro de la iglesia, principalmente dentro de la Renovación Carismática Católica
Sheriff: ¿Que es lo que sienten cuando son llamados músicos católicos?
Al. Cavallero: En primer lugar somos hijos de Dios. Tenemos que estar alegres y sentirnos bien con lo que hacemos, tanto espiritual, como profesionalmente; pues no tenemos la música como profesión, y no podemos dejar de vivir lo que predicamos. Nuestra misión es mostrar con la música, que el joven precisa transformar el mundo, a partir del momento que el transforme su vida y viva su vocación. Lo que hoy falta en el mundo es la alegría de servir, y esto vale para nosotros que somos músicos, pero también para profesores, médicos, abogados, etc.
Sheriff: Algunas personas piensan que la evangelización con el rock no tiene lógica y es anticristiano. Háblanos de tu experiencia y como contribuye el metal dentro de la iglesia.
Al. Cavallero: Esta es una cuestión polémica que tiene que ser analizada con bastante cuidado, tanto de parte de quien habla como de parte de quien oye. Decir simplemente que el rock es de Satanás, es dudar que Dios está presente en todo y en todos. Vamos a analizar de ejemplo un elemento que todos tienen en su cocina… el chuchillo. Con el, uno puede cortarse un dedo, herirse la mano, y hasta matar una persona; pero con el también puedo cortar un pedazo de pan, para saciar el hambre de mi hermano. Resumiendo: No es el instrumento el que hace bien o mal, sino la persona que lo utiliza. Con la música sucede lo mismo, es un instrumento en las manos de las personas que la ministran.
La buena música, no es solo aquella que se toca dentro de la iglesia. Existen muchas bandas seculares que se preocupan por temas importantes, pero que dentro de la iglesia no tiene la debida importancia como: la destrucción del planeta, las guerras, las drogas, el hambre, etc. Admiro a muchas bandas que están ligadas a cuestiones sociales como: U2, Peral Jam, entre otras. Anticristiano es usar la religión para ganar dinero, como hacen algunas sectas, apoyar políticos corruptos y callarse delante de experimentos científicos que pueden hacer mal a la humanidad. La música es un instrumento. Ella sola no tiene poder, pero si lo tiene quien la realiza.
Sheriff: Estamos imaginando que esta entrevista será leída por personas que no creen en Dios, ¿qué les dirías?
Al. Cavallero: Por mas que neguemos a Dios él continuará dándonos su amor. Dios está en todo y en todos. Ninguna persona es totalmente mala y ninguna es totalmente buena. Somos humanos y tenemos nuestros fallos.
Nadie niega algo que tiene certeza de que existe. Yo no puedo negar mis manos, porque las estoy viendo, lo mismo sucede con la casa en la que vivo, no puedo negar que ella existe porque la veo. Si alguien niega a Dios, es porque no tuvo experiencia con él y yo respeto eso; pero también digo que Dios se manifiesta a todos y en todos. Eso sucederá pronto o tal vez no, pero va a manifestar su amor. Ese día podrás seguirlo o despreciarlo pero negar que existe jamás.
Sheriff: Estos son los integrantes de Cavaleiros Consagrados, jóvenes cristianos de pelo largo que evangelizan a través del heavy metal y que dan su vida a través de la música. Pienso que son un ejemplo para muchos.

Alexandre: Pido a Dios que derrame su Espíritu Santo sobre todos los hombres y mujeres, para que podamos vivir en un mundo más justo y feliz. Pues una certeza “El cielo es mas fuerte”
INTERVIEW TO CAVALEIROS CONSAGRADOS
SHERIFF MUSICA: Cavaleiros Consagrados is a well known Catholic band in Brazil. Besides playing quality music in their shows , liberation takes place (and thus many people are renewed) which is ministered by Alexandre Cavallero, leader and singer.The band is made up as follows: Alexandre Cavallero (singer); André Duarte (guitar); Dorival Jr. (bass); and Julius Caesar (drums). I learned a lot about you in Internet, but I’d like you to tell us about yourselves for hose who still don’t know you.
A. CAVALLERO: It all started in 1992 when I atended a festival of Christian music called Hallel in Franca (500 km away from Sao Paulo). Up to that moment I thought that Chistian music related to classical choruses. I didn’t know anything about groups with youth rhythms like rock, reggae or pop. Soon afterwards Julius, Junior, some friends who are not in the band any more and I formed a band to go to youth meetings S.U.E.D. We haven’t stopped since then. We played in many cities till we decided to devote to music in 2001. We joined our lyrics, named the band Cavaleiros Consagrados and recorded our first album “Escudo Soberano” (Sovereign Shield) which was quite successful in Brazil.
SHERIFF MUSICA:Who influenced you?
A. CAVALLERO: We are eclectic. We listen from classical music to pop. But the style of the band is a mixture between Metallica and Pink Floyd.
SHERIFF MUSICA: Besides “Sovereign Shield” you have another work about to come up. When will this happen?
A. CAVALLERO: Not really. We only have some lyrics that will become part of a second album, but we haven’t decided anything yet..
SHERIFF MUSICA: I have the impresion that you have a good musical and spiritual education. Tell us about your musical studies.
A. CAVALLERO: When you are called for a mission you have to give the best out of you. If you had asked me in 1994 if I was going to form a band I would have said “No”. But as time went by I realised the youth needed quality music at church. And as we didn’t play well we decided to go to a conservatoire to improve our technique. We improved a lot in three years and now we study less because we are forming other musicians. In my particular case I analyse the lyrics since I am the composer. I download the scores of different bands from Internet and analyse them. In this way I am updated.
SHERIFF MUSICA: Tell me about the gift of liberation and how it is shown in your shows.
A. CAVALLERO: The gifts of healing and liberation are something serious and must be ministered with wisdom. It is not convenient to minister these gifts everywhere since they may be misunderstood by some non Christian metal people. I generally pray in concerts organized by church, like Hallel, Rocksurection, and so on. I can’t be alone to minister these gifts. I need intercessors for the liberation to be done successfully. When I’m playing I ask the youth to put the drug they are carrying at the bottom of the cross. We once filled a 50 kg. bag with marijuana, drinks and other things that make them slaves. It was wonderful to see the power of God work on them.
SHERIFF MUSICA: Are you in any movement or parish of church?
A. CAVALLERO: Yes, we participate actively in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
SHERIFF MUSICA: What do you feel when you are called Catholic musicians?
A. CAVALLERO: First of all we are God’s sons. The music is not our profession and we can’t stop living what we preach. Our mission is to show, with our muisic, that the youth need to transform the world when they have transformed their lives and live their vocation. Nowadays the world is lacking the joy for serving, and this applies to us musicians as well as teachers, lawyers, doctors, and so on.
SHERIFF MUSICA: Some people think that evangelizing through rock is ilogical and anti Christian. Tell us about your experience and how metal contributes to church.
A. CAVALLERO: This is a controversial fact that has to be analysed carefully by the speaker and the listener. Saying that rock is Satan’s is like doubting that God is present everywhere and in everybody. Let’s analyse a utensil we all have in the kitchen,the knife you can can cut your finger with, hurt your hand or even kill somebody. But I can also use it to cut a slice of bread and give it to a hungry person. To summarise we can say that it is not the instrument which does the right thing but people. The same happens with music, it is an instrument in the hands of those who minister it. The good music is not only the one played at church. There are secular bands which are worried by important subjects but are not paid attention at church: the destruction of the planet, wars, drugs, hunger. I admire bands linked to social subjects like U2 and Peral Jam. It is anti Christian to use religion to earn money as many sects do, back up corrupt politicians and be silent in fromt of scientific experiments that may harm mankind. Music is an instrument without power by itself . The musician has the power.
SHERIFF MUSICA: I imagine many people who do not believe in God will read this interview. What would you say to them?
A. CAVALLERO: No matter how much we deny God, he will go on giving us his love. God is everywhere and in everyone. Nobody is completely bad or good. We are human beings with failures. No one denies something if he is sure that it exists. I can’t deny my hands beacause I’m watching them, and the same happens with the house I live in because I’m looking at it. If someone denies God it must be because he had no experience with Him and I respect that. But I assure that He is shown to everybody and in everybody. This might happen soon or not, but in some way He will show his love. You can follow Him or despise Him but never deny his existence.
SHERIFF MUSICA: These are the members of Cavaleiros Consagrados, Christian long- haired youth who evangelize through heavy metal. I think they are an example. Thanks for the interview, brothers, go on the same way and don’t change. Alexandre would you like to thank somebody or say a prayer?
A. CAVALLERO: I ask God to spread the Holy Spirit over all women and men, so as we can live in a happier and fairer world. It is certain that “The sky is stronger.”
